Roger Zebaze 29th Australian and New Zealand Bone and Mineral Society Annual Scientific Meeting 2019

Roger Zebaze

Dr Zebaze is an inventor, clinician, and scientist. His work focuses on studying the pathogenesis, the structural and material basis of bone abnormalities and fragility fractures with the aim of developing novel tools that may allow better identification and assessment of patients with bone diseases in clinical and research settings. His research uses a wide range of advanced technologies such as High-Resolution peripheral Quantitative Computed Tomography (HRpQCT), Nano-indentation, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and standard X-rays. As some testimony of his work, Dr. Zebaze is the lead inventor in > 10 patents granted worldwide in the field of bone medicine and imaging (including USA, Canada, EU, China, Japan, and Australia). He is also the lead inventor and developer of one of the few medical devices in the field of bone medical imaging that has received regulatory approvals (TGA, CE Marking -i.e., StrAx1.0). Dr Zebaze's research agenda currently focuses on bone abnormalities (pain, necrosis, sclerosis…) and fragility fractures not explained by osteoporosis, bone loss, and decay. These are patients who are not (or are poorly) identified by the measurement of bone mineral density (BMD) or architecture (e.g., HRpQCT). He has proposed that bone disease in these patients is due to improper stacking, disarranged or misaligned bone components, tissues, or material -i.e., BONE DISORGANIZATION. To address the critical clinical unmet need due to the inability to identify patients suffering from disorganized bone diseases, he has developed and validated the World-First and only DISORGANIZATION MEASURER- ALIGNOGRAM1.0. Dr. Zebaze has co-authored more than 150 publications and conference papers including top Journals such as the Lancet.
