Anna Xiao-Dan Yu

My name is Anna Xiao-Dan YU. I am currently a Ph.D student in Prof. Karl TSIM's group, Division of Life Science, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). My primary research focuses in the areas of signaling by receptors activation and osteogenic mechanism induced by natural compounds, as well as the development of molecular therapeutics and biomarkers of drug action in osteoporosis. After screening, we found corylin isolated from the fruit of Psoralea corylifolia L. (Fabaceae), showed the osteogenic activity that regulates dual key pathways controlling cell differentiation and mineralization in primary osteoblasts. Besides, my research interests also focus in the areas of mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) and bone development. Bone micromass culture system derived from MSC has been well established in my research study, which could be great helpful in investigating the effect of natural compounds on osteogenesis and bone development.
