Debra Waters
A/Prof Waters is the Director of Gerontology Research at the University of Otago and the Director of the Ageing Well National Science Challenge, which is a New Zealand government funding programme that was launched in 2015. She also holds a research appointment at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center in the US, and has collaborators in the US (Prof DT Villareal) France (Profs Vellas, Rolland), Italy (Prof M Cesari) and Australia (Prof G Duque). She was part of the research group that originally proposed cut-scores for sarcopenia and sarcopenic-obesity in the US and her research continues to focus sarcopenia and sarcopenic-obesity and how this impacts on physical function and frailty, and effective interventions to combat these geriatric syndromes.
